None of them are emotionally mature enough to handle the levels of stress the game inflicted upon them. They’re all 13/14 fucking years old.
Jade does not just “get mad”. John does not just have “self-esteem issues”.
Most of John’s confidence is just a front, and he avoids tragedy like it’s the plague and none of that is 100% healthy. Jade is pushing herself beyond her limits because of her gifts and the expectations others gave her. Please stop acting like they’re more well-adjusted than Dave and Rose. THEY’RE NOT.

In Acquariet, at about the age of 14/15, young people would leave school and enter a sort of work study instead. Then they would train under that job until of age. At which point they would either be asked to stay and continue working there, or be let go.
